If your stepdad does truly love you, don't get caught up in whether or not you deserve it. Just appreciate the affection.

When you fall in love with someone that has kids, it's pretty easy to start caring about the people they love.
Maybe just accept that someone cares about your well-being, instead of trying to figure out what they "gain" from it.

@KillerRATband I agree with this. Family is not about blood. It's about love and communication. You can make a family with whomever you wish.

If you can’t love yourself, how can you love someone else?

Everyone deserves a positive father figure in their lives, period. I think your mom's right on this one, give it a chance. You might be surprised how much growth and healing this can lead to.

@Kiwi dude that's deep

I also live with my mom and stepdad, and for the longest while I just felt weird living with him. I feel what you are saying about being uncomfortable about it, but I really think you have to give him a chance bro. There are a lot of people who want to help and love you, but you have to give them a chance.

Everyone deserves a father figure in their life.

Of course he has something to gain. You know that old people steriotype, where they grumpily complain their kids or grandkids never visit.

You could be the (step)kid that actually does! Then when you visit him in his senior residence and you ask him how he's doing, he could be like:
'doing bad, I just shat my pants'
Then you could go all like: *brapitybraaaaaaahp...... Pffffffff blubrrrrrrrrBRAP* 'hey! So did I!'.

Quite the long term plan, but still.

Unironicly now. I think this post could use a little bit of that @fnkbros perspective shined on the subject matter

Sorry, misspelled it like an idiot.

@FUNKbrs

@Guidodinho Yeah, if you care about someone, you're going to care about their kids, too. Dadding is an instinct, it's not something that's a burden or at all awkward. I've had a lot of positive experiences with my stepkid. Really, gecky's stepdad probably is even more likely to want to be close to him since so many of his bio kids are grown and gone. It may be weird to open up to him, but it is definitely not weird at all for him.

@FUNKbrs Thanks FUNK.

damn lad. my pops died when i was real small so i never had a pops either. but i got a stepdad as well. stepdads are pretty nice. just embrace it ;-0
